Merano, Italy, May 12-16, 2025

During the current school year, between May 12–16, 2025, 8 students and 2 accompanying teachers participated in an Erasmus+ mobility program in Merano (South Tyrol, Italy), at the Wirtschaftsfachoberschule “Franz Kafka” Secondary School. The activities took place within a rich and well-structured program that provided 11th-grade students with the opportunity to develop their linguistic, intercultural, inclusive, and sustainability-related knowledge. The program combined formal and informal learning situations, with a special focus on English communication, understanding minority cultures, and embracing cultural diversity.

The week began with an introductory session where the students met the host school community and took part in a school tour guided by fellow students. During group work, they tackled geopolitical and economic topics in mixed-nationality teams, enhancing their critical thinking, collaboration skills, and English language proficiency.

On the second day, they had the chance to experience the practical side of vocational training, trying out how theoretical knowledge can be applied in a real business environment. They also gained insight into inclusive educational practices, with a particular focus on the integration of students with special educational needs.

Later, they participated in various classes, where they had the opportunity to engage actively, work in teams, observe different subjects, and explore various teaching methods. They also presented their country through student-led presentations in several classes.

As part of a full-day study trip, they visited the “Pedross” wood processing factory, which produces its products in a sustainable way. Afterwards, as part of the cultural program, they explored Tirol Castle and the area around Lake Reschensee in Curon Venosta valley. The students learned about the history and geography of local minority communities and the importance of preserving natural heritage.

As a follow-up activity, the students and their teachers evaluated the lessons learned, the knowledge gained, and the experiences they had during the program. The Erasmus+ program in Merano provided a comprehensive learning experience that combined the academic, professional, and cultural development of the students. The participants not only improved their English and social skills but also became more open to diversity, minority cultures, inclusive education, and sustainability.
