A group of 18 students from Mikes Kelemen Secondary School, grade XI, with three accompanying teachers, visited a school in Spain in early June 2023. The aim of the programme was to learn about the Spanish school system, culture and history in English, through school activities and visits to historical sites and monuments.
After getting acquainted with the students from Logrono, the introduction of the boys' and girls' sections of the Colegio Alcaste was followed by common group activities. The girls from Logrono gave presentations on the region of La Rioja, while the headmaster and the English teacher of the boys' school talked about the school's foundation, its history, the current curriculum and Erasmus+ programmes.
Our students' English language PowerPoint presentations were given to students from different classes, and the rest of the group activities were casual and informal.
In addition to learning about the school systems, our students gained a wide range of cultural experiences. The old town of Logrono, the San Bernabe Festival, the pilgrimage sites, the famous little street of Calle del Laurel, the Cathedral of Santa Maria de la Redonda, the Museum of Science Interactive Experiments were all special experiences, as were the attractions of the city of Zaragoza: the Aljafeíra Palace, the Basilica of Nuestra Senora del Pilar and the Francisco Goya Museum.
